The Penn Yan Elks Lodge #1722 conducted its annual American Flag retirement ceremony at the Johnson-Costello Post #355, American Legion on Flag Day, June 14. The ceremony included a description and posting of each of the American Flags used since the United States was founded in 1776.
Steve Neuberger, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, led the ceremony, which included statements by several other Elks members. The ceremony concluded with the official retirement ceremony for several American flags, which were consumed by fire in the manner established by flag etiquette.
If you have a worn or damaged American Flag in need of disposal, it may be placed in the disposal container outside the Johnson-Costello Post Home at 2001 Himrod Road, Penn Yan.
