Maddie Smith: Yates County Distinguished Youth

PENN YAN -- The Yates County Distinguished Youth Award was presented to Madaline “Maddie” Smith at the Yates County Legislature meeting held on Monday, April 10. The Distinguished Youth Award was created by the Youth Board in 2011 to recognize Yates County youth who are positive role models, have performed outstanding service for their community, and/or have assumed extraordinary roles within their families.

Drug Takeback Day, April 22

PENN YAN - Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will once again give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The Sheriff’s Office advises that disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash may pose potential environmental, safety, and health hazards.

NYSP Scam Alert

New York State Police remind the public that the NYSP does not solicit money or information by phone. Canandaigua and Rochester area residents are receiving phone calls where the caller states they are a trooper and NYSP are investing you for drug crimes. The caller is then asking for personal information and ultimately money.

Peasantman offers free training plan

PENN YAN – Peasantman has teamed up with QT2 Systems to provide guidance to athletes who are newer to the 72.3 distance. Athletes who register for the 2023 Individual Peasantman Half Steel Distance 72.3 race by April 30 (or have already registered for it) will be eligible to sign up for a free training plan, geared specifically towards getting you ready for this year’s Peasantman 72.3 race.
