Holocaust Remembrance talk

FINGER LAKES – Finger Lakes Community College will host Holocaust survivor Warren Heilbronner on Thursday, April 20, at 12:45 p.m. in the main campus auditorium. His talk is part of the History, Culture and Diversity series organized by Robert Brown, professor of history.

Pollinator of the Year Final

After four weeks, and over 200 votes, it comes down to this… our final bracket matchup is between the Andrena Mining Bee (Andrena spp.) and the Oblique Streaktail Hoverfly (Allograpta obliqua). Both pollinators are vital to creating and maintaining the habitats and ecosystems many animals rely on for food and shelter.

Drug Takeback Day, April 22

PENN YAN - Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will once again give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The Sheriff’s Office advises that disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash may pose potential environmental, safety, and health hazards.

NYSP Scam Alert

New York State Police remind the public that the NYSP does not solicit money or information by phone. Canandaigua and Rochester area residents are receiving phone calls where the caller states they are a trooper and NYSP are investing you for drug crimes. The caller is then asking for personal information and ultimately money.
