FL Land Trust protects 421 acres of Yates Co. farmland

YATES COUNTY -- The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has permanently protected 421 acres of farmland at Christiansen Farms in the towns of Benton and Torrey, Yates County. Funds for the project came from the state’s Farmland Protection Implementation Program (FPIG), administered by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. FPIG funds were used to purchase three agricultural conservation easements protecting five non-contiguous parcels.

1873: Early Rushville settlers over 70 reunite

150 Years Ago February 6, 1873 An Extraordinary Meeting - On Saturday the 11th of January 1873 occurred at the residence of Stephen Ferguson, near Rushville, an assemblage of people unprecedented, perhaps, in the annals of our country. Mr. Ferguson’s 75th birthday occurring on that day, he took measures to observe it, by inviting all the old people within the circle of his acquaintance who had attained to the age of three-score and ten, to meet at his house on that occasion. So, he issued the invitation, and spent several days in personal visits, that he might be sure to include all who had survived long enough to entitle them to the honor.

Dundee Rotary Students of the Months

Dundee Rotary recently honored both December and January Students of the Month. Dundee Jr. & Sr. High School Principal Chris Arnold accompanied December’s Student of the Month, Kali Sutherland, daughter of Joshua & Jennifer Sutherland, and January’s Student of the Month, MyKenzie Clancey, daughter of Jake Clancey & Krystal Clancey, to the Jan. 18 Dundee Rotary Club meeting. Both students were selected for their academic excellence, their participation in multiple activities, and their model character traits.
