Members of the Penn Yan Academy Class of 1956 presented a contribution to the Johnson-Costello Post #355, American Legion to benefit the Honor Flight Program. Honor Flight sends veterans of World War II, Korea and Viet Nam to Washington DC to visit the monuments honoring those who served in the military.
New York Farm Bureau’s 2022 Market Basket Survey shows the price of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner saw a double-digit price jump from last year’s meal. The average total price, which includes a 16-pound turkey and other common items found on a holiday dinner table, is $66.39, about a 26% increase over last year’s price of $52.59.
PENN YAN - Yates County is joining 33 other communities across New York, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Ohio in launching the first communications campaign for the Healing Communities Study (HCS). The first campaign, running from Oct. 3- Dec. 2, is focused on raising awareness of the dangers of illicit fentanyl, a drug that is present in more than three quarters of the more than 2,000 overdose deaths that occur in New York State each year (source: NY State Opioid Annual Report, 2021). In addition to sharing facts about the dangers of illicit fentanyl, the HCS campaign teaches ways to protect our loved ones and community members from overdose including:

Branchport Methodist [Missing from Nov. 9 edition] What a blessing it was to open our church to the community for a delicious dinner last week! It was our first time offering this free meal to our friends, so we did not know what to expect.

YATES COUNTY - For a midterm election year, local election officials are pleased to report a remarkably high turnout of Yates County voters. Election Commissioner Robert Bretchko reports that overall turnout was just shy of 60%, the highest for any midterm election within his experience.
