Blood donor eligibility expanded

YATES COUNTY -- The American Red Cross now invites those who spent time in the U.K., Ireland or France and have never tried to give blood due to concerns over variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease – related to mad cow disease – to give blood and help save lives. This announcement comes as a result of recent eligibility guideline updates from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and provides a new opportunity for more people to become part of the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.

Seed Funding to Help Early-Stage Small Businesses

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a first-in-the-nation $200 million Seed Funding Grant program that will provide flexible grants to support early-stage, micro, and small businesses in a still-recovering New York State economy. The program will ensure small businesses that opened shortly before or during the COVID-19 pandemic will have the funds to continue to operate and grow.

Fatal car crash in Italy

ITALY-- Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Italy Valley Road near Olney Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries Oct. 7, at approximately 9 a.m. Naples Fire and Ambulance, Medic 55, Yates Emergency Management, and a Yates County Coroner also responded.
