PENN YAN -- The Yates Community Center (YCC) has received a $70,000 operating support grant from the Nord Family Foundation. This generous funding strengthens YCC's ability to sustain its programs and services that benefit residents of all ages throughout Yates County.
PENN YAN -- Calling all instrumentalists, the Penn Yan Area Summer Band started its 34th year with the first rehearsal on Tuesday, July 8 from 7 – 8:15 p.m. in the Penn Yan Academy Band Room.

Sponsored by the Ontario Yates Fund for Women and Girls (ONYA), this class aims to empower participants with essential car care skills in a supportive, judgment-free environment.
KEUKA PARK — The Keuka College Department of Athletics has announced that Courtney Lafler will be the next Head Women's Lacrosse Head Coach for the Wolves. Courtney most recently coached at Niagara Wheatfield High School while also assisting with the Keuka College program.

GRADUATIONS Clarkson University POTSDAM -- Students from Clarkson University were awarded bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees this spring at Commencement on May 10, 2025. Eric Lowell Fingar, of Penn Yan, received a bachelor of science degree in computer science, mathematics minor.
Yates County Sheriff Frank Ryan received multiple calls and inquiries from local citizens last week due to a press release from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) which listed Yates County "a sanctuary county." In response to reporters' inquiries, Ryan stated, "Rest assured that we are working to determine why we were placed on this list after a 2019 resolution by our legislature opposed sanctuary status, and how to remove our county from the list." "The Yates County Sheriff's Office has always, and will always, work to assist our Federal Law Enforcement partners to the fullest extent we are allowed by New York State law to do. There are no plans in place to change the way we assist our Federal Law Enforcement agencies in the future.
