PENN YAN -- A recent collaboration between the Penn Yan Community Garden, the Arts Center of Yates County, and the fifth graders at St. Michael's School in Penn Yan has added a new mural to the area's public art offerings.
MIDDLESEX -- At 7:55 p.m. Saturday, July 12, Yates County Sheriff Deputies & Marine Patrol, Middlesex Fire & Ambulance, Cheshire and Rushville Fire Depts., and Mercy Flight were dispatched to 296 East Lake Road for the report of a boat accident with injuries.

DRESDEN – During last week's heat wave, Greenidge Generation sent 99.5% of the electrical power they generated at the Dresden power plant to the local electrical grid to meet the high demand. Greenidge began increasing the amount of power it provides to the local grid at the beginning of the week, providing 88% of available power to the local grid on Monday and Tuesday, and increased power to the grid to 99.5% of capacity on Wednesday.
PENN YAN — Cornell Cooperative Extension-Yates County is launching the 4th Annual Yates County Pollinator Tournament on June 4th, 2025, to celebrate National Pollinator Month. We invite the community to choose which pollinator to crown in this March Madness-style bracket challenge, where pollinators are pitted against each other for your vote.
Finger Lakes Community Health is a community health center program with nine health center sites that serve 29,000 patients annually. About 36% of our patients have Medicaid, and it is a lifeline for them and for our ability to provide them with comprehensive care.
FINGER LAKES -- The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has received a $100,000 grant through the New York State Conservation Partnership Program to launch the Hemlock to High Tor Initiative. This effort will ensure the future conservation of a 114,000-acre forested landscape extending from Hemlock Lake in the west to the High Tor Wildlife Management Area in Yates County near Naples.
