A little hope for some political excitement in 2023

It looks like 2023 could be a pretty boring political year for Yates County, but there’s still a glimmer of hope for some political sparring on a local level. A little over a month ago, I wrote about local political enrollment numbers and the upcoming 2023 local elections, pointing out that prospective candidates for party nominations were seeking signatures on Designating Petitions.

Oppose amending zoning to benefit developer

While the Village Planning Board and the Board of Trustees have determined a need for moderately priced senior citizen housing, I never imagined it would lead to a developer’s desire to construct a commercial rental development in the middle of my single family neighborhood. This news came as a complete shock to me when it was announced in the Lake to Lake bulletin published March 8.

A Simple Act Can Save a Life Register to be an organ donor

FINGER LAKES -- Approximately 10,000 N.Y. state residents are waiting for transplants of organ, eye, and tissue donations that could save their life or make their quality of life better, according to a review of state data by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. The majority need a kidney — more than 7,200 New Yorkers undergo dialysis treatment while they wait for a donor.

NY needs a ‘Freedom Agenda’

New Yorkers across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions I represent, and statewide, are worried about the direction this state government keeps heading under one-party, all-Democrat, extremely liberal control. We see New York becoming less safe, less affordable, less economically competitive, less responsible, and far less free and hopeful for the future.

Solar farms not a threat to agriculture

Some thoughts on ongoing discussions from the opinion page. Both Ms. Chamberlain and Mr. O’Mara have raised questions about the Climate Leadership Plan that bear further discussion. Ms. Hunt’s factual column on the plan was nuanced and well informed and should dispel much of the fearful reactions depicted in the earlier opinions.
