Let’s get things moving on West Bluff Drive wash out

I’m writing about the washing out of West Bluff Drive in the Town of Jerusalem. It happened over one year ago, and nothing has been done to fix it! Many cars, trucks, and school buses used this road all the time, and since the Town of Jerusalem hasn’t fixed it, all this traffic has been pushed over to East Bluff Drive and Brown Hill Road. There are many houses being built out here and the construction traffic is really bad. Plus, more and more people are staying here year-round.

Be careful signing up for Medicare Advantage

We are right in the Medicare plan change window until Dec. 7. So lately, I have asked quite a few people about their Medicare plan, and it is really shocking how little a lot of people know, even though their decisions can have far reaching financial consequences in their lives. A lot of people don’t even know the first thing about the difference between original Medicare and “privatized” Medicare Advantage, or the socalled Part C Medicare.

Aggressive action needed to recoup lost funds and provide unemployment relief to small businesses In an audit completed by Comptroller DiNapoli it was revealed that the state Labor Department paid out $11 billion in fraudulent unemployment claims during COVID. For months, I joined my legislative colleagues in calling out the Labor Department for not answering calls for help from the unemployed, with many constituents going through our were newly unemployed due to the COVID-mandated lockdowns put on by the Cuomo and Hochul administrations.

Post-midterms reflections

The 2022 midterm elections are mostly behind us, and we imagine most Yates County residents will join the members of the Finger Lakes Justice Partnership in feeling relief. Election season can be exciting in many ways, allowing us to put our values into action, but it can also bring anxiety for those of us whose civil and human rights feel constantly up for a vote. FLXJP is optimistic about the results, though local races didn’t go as some had hoped. All in all, it appears that democracy succeeded this year.
