OUTDOORS Spring Trout Season starts April 1

FINGER LAKES -- April 1 is the start of the spring trout fishing season, which provides excellent angling opportunities thanks to DEC's annual stocking program and wild trout fisheries. DEC's extensive spring stocking includes nearly 1.9 million trout in waters statewide, enhancing the diversity of fishing opportunities available to anglers across New York State.

EXTENSION CORNER Gardening Matters Day, April 12

PENN YAN - The Master Gardeners of Yates County are excited to invite you to Gardening Matters Day — a special event dedicated to all things gardening! Topics Include: Companion Planting "Planting Is the Last Season" Biodynamic Farming Native Alternatives Planting Flowers in A Vegetable Garden Gardening For the Birds The event will be held indoors at the Yates County Building Auditorium. The attendance fee is $20 (donations are appreciated), and refreshments will be provided.

OUTDOORS Winter pheasant release at Hi Tor

YATES COUNTY - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced new late-season pheasant stocking to enhance hunting opportunities in DEC's Region 8. Over the last two weeks, approximately 670 additional adult ring-necked pheasants were released on public lands open to hunting in Yates, Steuben, Ontario, Chemung, and Livingston Counties.
