I've written in the past about voter enrollment in Yates County, but maybe it's time for a little refresher, with encouragement for New York State to take action toward open primaries, among other things. It's happening slowly, but there is a shift in Yates County political party enrollment.

KEUKA LAKE - After several years without sufficient cold, areas of Keuka Lake are now safe enough for ice fishing with 5-6 inches thickness as of Monday. Anglers braved the cold and have reported good catches.

OVID - The Finger Lakes region has turned its eyes and hearts to the small village of Ovid, midway between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes, following the massive fire Tuesday night, Jan 21 that destroyed an entire downtown block at the intersection of Main and Seneca Streets. With frigid temperatures and a strong wind, firefighters were battling both fire and ice.
The American Red Cross encourages donors to give blood or platelets now to help protect the blood supply from the ongoing impact of severe winter weather and wildfires. Donors of all blood types – particularly type O negative blood donors and those giving platelets – are needed to help save lives this month.
