8-year-old boy drowns in frozen pond
MILO - An 8-year-old boy died by drowning Sunday afternoon, Dec. 29 after falling through the ice on a farm pond off Bath Road in the town of Milo.

Meet Lia Bush, first Penn Yan Youth Ambassador
Penn Yan Academy Junior Lia Bush, daughter of Emily Bush, was named as Penn Yan Youth Ambassador at this year's Star Shine event in Penn Yan. The title is a modernization of the former Miss Penn Yan contest, which was taken over by the Pennsylvania Yankee Theatre Company (PYTCo) from the contest's former organizers, the Yates County Women.

Excelsior Scholarship application open for spring '25
Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) have announced the opening of the spring 2025 Excelsior Scholarship application. Eligible students planning to enroll full-time in a SUNY or CUNY 2- or 4-year college or university in the spring 2025 term can apply.
