PENN YAN - For the first time in many years, Penn Yan's StarShine celebration was graced with snow, and it seemed to heighten the holiday spirits of the many people who gathered in Courthouse Square and along Main St. for the Holiday Lights on Wheels Parade.

The 2024 Yates Christmas Distribution is a wrap! Thanks to all the volunteers and supporters, we served 657 children and 278 families. Along with many community volunteers, Dundee Central School and Penn Yan Central School District send students each year to help with the set-up, distribution, and clean-up over the four days.

With the countdown to Christmas 2024 well underway, the catalogs fill our mailboxes, but the classic Big Books and Holiday Wish Books from Sears, JC Penney, and Montgomery Ward no longer weigh down the mail carrier's bags. Now, the slimmer publications from Vermont Country Store, LL Bean, and other specialized outlets appear as early as September, but they hit the recycle box soon as our attention turns to the web.
