Gov. Hochul signs legislation for $30 million to help replace failing septic systems

July 23, Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law legislation making it easier and more affordable for New Yorkers to upgrade to advanced septic systems that significantly reduce water pollution, protect public health, and improve water quality. The Governor also announced a $30 million investment for Round 5 of the successful State Septic System Replacement Fund Program to help homeowners upgrade or replace failing septic systems, particularly those impacting water bodies designated as priority areas.

POLICE REPORTS Pulteney man charged with 86 counts for child pornography

The New York State Police arrested Kyle Marshall, 23, on July 18 following a 2-year comprehensive child exploitation investigation, conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Troop E Computer Crimes Unit, Troop E Forensic Investigation Unit, Bath and Wayland Troopers. The investigation originated with a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

AGRICULTURE: Join the effort to combat Spotted Lanternfly

FINGER LAKES -- Researchers at the USDA-ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station — working in partnership with Virginia Tech, Penn State, Rutgers University, and others — are leading a multi-state initiative, Areawide Management of the Invasive Spotted Lanternfly and Tree of Heaven. This project aims to suppress populations of both invasive species to improve ecosystem health, reduce insecticide use in vineyards, protect pollinators, and minimize crop losses.
