The Penn Yan Elks Lodge #1722 conducted its annual American Flag retirement ceremony at the Johnson-Costello Post #355, American Legion on Flag Day, June 14. The ceremony included a description and posting of each of the American Flags used since the United States was founded in 1776.
Steve Neuberger, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, led the ceremony, which included statements by several other Elks members. The ceremony concluded with the official retirement ceremony for several American flags, which were consumed by fire in the manner established by flag etiquette.
If you have a worn or damaged American Flag in need of disposal, it may be placed in the disposal container outside the Johnson-Costello Post Home at 2001 Himrod Road, Penn Yan.

PENN YAN â Yates Cultural & Recreational Resources Inc. (YCRR) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Beth Clark as its new Executive Director. With extensive experience in events, non-profit business management, and community engagement, Beth brings a fresh perspective and dynamic leadership to our organization.
Clark's career has been marked by her passion for community-driven initiatives and entertainment. She previously served as the Executive Director of the Eldridge Park Carousel Preservation Society, where she successfully enhanced their programming that led to increased foot traffic, improved overall revenue, and significantly expanded their fundraising and grant efforts.
Clark's tenure as the Program Coordinator at the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce allowed her to collaborate with local businesses, advocate for professional development, and create impactful programs within the Chemung County Community. Her ability to connect with diverse groups and build meaningful relationships will be instrumental in advancing YCRR's mission.
"I am thrilled to take on this new challenge and work closely with YCRR as we embark on the next phase of our expansion project," says Clark, sharing her excitement about joining YCRR. Her vision aligns with YCRR's commitment to enriching the cultural and recreational experiences of our community. Reflecting on her motivation, she adds, "Philanthropy has been a large part of my life. My mother dedicated her life to helping others and giving back to the community, which is a quality I always admired and strived for myself. I look forward to continuing her legacy by helping to make a positive impact within the Yates Community."
