"To say that I'm a frustrated dairy farmer in New York State would be an understatement. I don't understand how a bill like this even gets remotely this far." That was the reaction of just one New York State dairy farmer at the Capitol last week where a proposal coming out of New York City stirred a rallying cry of Upstate opposition from the New York Farm Bureau and many others, and rightly so.

Bill Turner recognized by NYS Office for the Aging as 'Extraordinary Volunteer'

ALBANY - The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) recently honored 100 older adults for their extraordinary volunteerism as part of NYSOFA's annual Older New Yorkers' Day celebration, which took place May 27 in Albany, during Older Americans Month. New York's 59 county and municipal offices for the aging and their partners nominate older adults who have made their communities stronger, vibrant, and welcoming, through their remarkable volunteer and civic contributions.The theme of Older Americans Month 2025 is "Flip the Script on Aging" to focus on transforming how society perceives, talks about, and approaches aging.

FLLT Hemlock to High Tor Initiative to preserve 114,000 acres of forests

FINGER LAKES -- The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has received a $100,000 grant through the New York State Conservation Partnership Program to launch the Hemlock to High Tor Initiative. This effort will ensure the future conservation of a 114,000-acre forested landscape extending from Hemlock Lake in the west to the High Tor Wildlife Management Area in Yates County near Naples.

PYA wins both Section V lacrosse titles!

June 2, Class D Boys Finals (#1) Penn Yan 19, (#3) Bloomfield/Honeoye 6 While it isn't fair to say that Penn Yan Academy had an easy stroll through this year's Section V Championships, the Mustangs certainly made it look easy. In their three Sectional games, the Mustangs scored 19 points in each while holding their opponents to a single digit score.
