Bicentennial Parade Participants Sought
The Yates County Bicentennial Committee is encouraging all towns, villages and organizations to be a part of the bicentennial parade to be held on Saturday, Aug.12 at 5 p.m. in Penn Yan. Clubs, service organizations, historical societies, bands and any other interested groups are encouraged to sign up.
Longmeadow Woodswalk June 9
The Yates County Master Forest Owners invite you to join us for a Woods Walk on Friday, June 9 at 9 a.m. at the Tschorke family cabin, “Longmeadow.” This woods walk will highlight the 40-acre property with a cabin and barn. There are 30 acres of northern hardwoods and beautiful stands of conifers. The other 10 acres hold about seven acres of blue lupines, which are quite impressive in early June.

Graduations SUNY Potsdam POTSDAM -- The State University of New York at Potsdam recognized the Class of 2023 during the College’s 203rd Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 20. Local graduates include: • Jonathan Lasek of Naples, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education • Drew Wertman of Penn Yan, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeological Studies, summa cum laude.

Inaugural Keuka College Expo
KEUKA PARK — Keuka College’s Lightner Library was uncharacteristically raucous earlier this month as the serious solitude of study gave way to exuberant exhibitions of scholarship and creativity. It was all part of the first Keuka College Expo, a celebratory symposium of the College community’s artistic, intellectual, and creative achievements with a special focus on experiential learning.

YCE supports elder health at The Homestead
PENN YAN – The Yates Community Endowment of Rochester Area Community Foundation has awarded $5,000 to The Homestead at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital to purchase much needed Alternating Pressure Mattresses. These specialty units are used for patients and residents with mobility deficiencies and who are temporarily or permanently bedridden or spend long hours in bed.
USDA Ready to Help NY Farmers Recover from Frost
SYRACUSE — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), through the Farm Service Agency (FSA), has disaster assistance programs available to help agricultural producers recover after damaging weather, including freeze events. Recent extreme weather conditions have impacted farmers in New York.

Cooperative Extension helping vineyards recover from late frost
FINGER LAKES -- In the aftermath of a prolonged mid-May freeze, two Cornell viticulture experts are helping to advise grape growers in New York on how to rescue their season. Currently, the vineyards now face a possible reduced crop and economic loss.

Folk Art Guild awarded grant for solar energy conversion
MIDDLESEX – The Rochester Folk Art Guild announced today a grant award totaling $95,000 from the N.Y. State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the organization’s conversion of its facility to solar energy.
