Greenidge fish screens now in operation

DRESDEN – Greenidge Generation has completed the installation of cylindrical wedge wire screens at the company’s water intake system on Seneca Lake. The screens were specifically designed for Greenidge to prevent fish and other aquatic life from being drawn in with the lake water used to cool the one electric generator that remains from the plant’s original four.

YCSO celebrates Bicentennial with commemorative badge

2023 year is the bicentennial of Yates County and the Sheriff’s Office will be a part of the celebration. In 1823 when the county was founded, there were two New York State constitutional offices created first in the county government: the County Sheriff and the County Clerk. Thus, from the very beginning YCSO was a major part of the county’s identity and governance.

Discover our history in local book collections

The year-long celebration of Yates County’s Bicentennial and Dundee’s 175th Anniversary will officially begin in a few days, and special events will be held recognize our local history. The Yates County Legislature has adopted a resolution that says, in part, “It is fitting and proper that the full year be commemorated with historical, educational, artistic, joyful events, and parades in all areas of the county in keeping with this rare and important County of Yates anniversary.” This column is to extend my gratitude to a number of people who have kept our history and culture alive through their pens and keyboards.
