Robert Knute Jensen, 87, of Penn Yan, N.Y., passed from this life on February 22, 2023. He was a guest at Keuka Comfort Care Home at the time. Bob chose to participate in the University of Rochester Medical Center Anatomical Gift Program. A gathering for family and friends will be held at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main Street, Penn Yan, on Saturday, April 1 from 1 - 4 p.m. The afternoon will close with military funeral honors in recognition of Bob’s Navy service. He was born June 18, 1935, in Penn Yan, the son to Alfred Sr. and Lucy (Bock) Jensen, and later Helen (Carpenter) Jensen. Bob was a sixth-generation descendant of Finger Lakes families, and the grandson of Jens Alfred Knud Jensen and Margaret Gay Parker of Pulteney. He grew up on Keuka Lake. After their marriage in 1960, he and his wife, Leona (Staake) Jensen, built their forever home overlooking Seneca Lake. Bob and Leona raised their four sons, Marc, Neal, Dana and Alex Jensen. He is survived by them and their respective families, including 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

George E. Hayes, 72, of Penn Yan, N.Y., passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

Shirley M. Jensen, 92, of Penn Yan, N.Y., died on February 12, 2023, at Keuka Comfort Care Home.

Barbara Frederiksen, 96, of Penn Yan passed away February 3, 2023. Barbara was born in Penn Yan on June 18, 1926, the youngest daughter of the late Milford “Pete” and Flossie Danes.

Flora Leona Scott Nielsen, 102, of Penn Yan passed away February 1, 2023, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. She was born April 5, 1920, in Benton, N.Y. to Roy and Bertha Steger Scott. She married Elmer Nielsen on January 20, 1941. She worked with Dr. William Rhudy, was a teacher’s aide at Penn Yan Elementary School and worked many years at Lown’s Department Store and Lown’s House of Shoppes in Penn Yan, N.Y. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Flora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and friend who will be missed by all. At the age of 102 she continued to live independently in her own home. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Lori Nickoloff, will be held on Saturday February 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St., Penn Yan. An hour prior to the service, 10 to 11 a.m., will be calling hours also held at the church. A luncheon will be provided after the service. Flora is survived by her son David (Charlene) Nielsen; daughter Rita (Robert) Rasmussen; grandchildren, Julie Rasmussen (Jody Jaynes); Jamie Rasmussen; Jeff (Katie) Nielsen; honorary grandchild Jeffrey Rasmussen; great-grandchildren, Parker and Abigail Rasmussen; Dax and Lucy Nielsen; sisters-inlaw, Doris (Clem) Nielsen and Edith (Blondie) Snyder; nephew Roy Voak; and many other nieces and nephews.

Nancy Schofield Athawes, 87, passed away on January 23, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Athawes, daughter Nora Corwin, brother-in-law Rodman Williams and sister- and brother-in-law Carol and Bill Nolph. She is survived by her son William Mark Athawes (Kathryn Schepp), son-in-law Richard Corwin (Maria Corwin), grandchildren Brittany Corwin and Eric Corwin (Danielle Corwin), great-grandson James Corwin, and sister Sally Williams.

Barbara Jean Edwards, age 94, of Naples, New York passed away on Sunday, January 15th, 2023 surrounded by loving family at the Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan, New York. Barbara was born on August 25, 1928 in Rochester, New York.
