PENN YAN – Beloved local art teacher and muralist Bob Gillespie has completed his latest work; a pictographic history of Penn Yan Boats installed on the entry porch of the Main Deck Restaurant on Keuka Lake.
While the rays of the sun setting over Keuka Lake send their golden glow into the rooms at Keuka Comfort Care Home (KCCH), volunteers inside are putting their hearts into compassionate care for residents who are embarking on their next journey. While neither the recipients of this care, nor their families, receive a bill, thanks to the many volunteers and supporters of KCCH, important fundraisers take place each year in order to carry on its mission.

NAPLES — The Nature Conservancy is breaking ground on a new trail system in the Finger Lakes. Located at West Hill Preserve in Naples, it will be the first multiuse trail system designed for hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers to be offered by The Nature Conservancy in N.Y. The completed trail will total 13.5 miles, improving a section of the 900-mile Finger Lakes Trail that currently runs through the preserve. The first section, under construction and expected to open to the public by the end of 2023, will be 3.5 miles, ranging in difficulty from beginner to intermediate. Visitors to the new trail can expect more recreational options, improved sightlines, increased accessibility and a better user experience overall.

We seem to be thinking about local history a bit more this year as we celebrate the Yates County Bicentennial, so I decided to take a closer look at the ways Memorial Day has been observed here over the years. Because it seems we’re more focused on the observances during times of war, I thought I’d focus on years near the end of a war.

PENN YAN — Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH) and the Penn Yan Central School District have partnered in the opening of a Schoolbased Health Center for students who attend the Penn Yan Schools. The Schoolbased Health Center is located at the Penn Yan Elementary School at 3 School Drive.
