January 8, 1945 - January 17, 2023 HAMMONDSPORT - Dennis “Denny” Reinhold Carlson died on January 17, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on January 8, 1945, in Newark, NJ to the late Leighton Reinhold and Helen Elizabeth (Miller- Milewski) Carlson.

Richard T. “Dick” Gill e s p i e passed away peacefully January 15, 2023. He was born in Fulton, N.Y. on August 14, 1921. He learned to fly in 1941 while a student at Syracuse University and, in 1943, joined the US Army Air Forces. In 1944, he married his hometown sweetheart, Jean Ellsworth. During WWII he flew 21 missions over Germany as a B-17 Flying Fortress pilot. His last 10 missions were as lead Micky (radar) Ship Pilot and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak leaf Clusters for leading missions that destroyed three heavilydefended of Nazi airbases. After the war, he completed his degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Syracuse University. For the next 23 years, he ran Gillespie Dairy Inc. in Fulton. In 1975 he and his wife moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. and managed a mobile home park. In 1999, Dick and Jean moved to Penn Yan, N.Y. He enjoyed flying, horseback riding, traveling, and exercising.

Ora Hammond, 77, of Bellona, N.Y. entered unto rest on Friday, December 23, 2022, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.
Betty Donahoe, a longtime resident of Penn Yan, N.Y., died January 3, 2023, at age 87, following a brief illness. Calling hours and a memorial service will take place at Penn Yan United Methodist Church, 166 Main Street, on Saturday, January 21.

Phillip G. Allison of Adams Rd, Penn Yan, N.Y. passed away December 16, 2022, at the age of 87. Phil was born in Penn Yan on July 24, 1935, the son of the late Percy and Mildred (Johnson) Allison. Phil was a lifelong resident of Penn Yan. He honorably served in the United States Army as a young man. Phil built a career and retired from American Can Company in Geneva working as a machinist. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating on Keuka Lake. He was a lifetime member of the Penn Yan American Legion and Seneca Lake Duck Club where he enjoyed seeing friends. Phil is survived by his loving companion of 22 years, Sue Jepsen; sons, Chad Allison (Susan Polizzi) and Kipp Allison; six grandchildren: Justin, Nicole, Amanda, Chad Jr., Christopher and Melissa, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Phillip J. Allison and his siblings. Following with Phil’s wishes, there are no services. Weldon Funeral Home in Penn Yan is handling arrangements.
